Premier music education

Ms. Amy uses her extensive teaching and tutoring experience to tailor violin and viola instruction to each student's individual learning style. Amy's philosophy of teaching incorporates fun into the foundations of music theory and instrument technique in a relaxed atmosphere.

Beginning-, intermediate-, and advanced-level students from ages six years to adults will learn from familiar and well-proven approaches such as Suzuki Method combined with customized exercises to enjoy the mastery of their instruments.

Ms. Amy has over 20 years' performing experience, and has taught privately for 12 years. She played with the Houston Civic Symphony for 4 seasons and served on its Board of Directors in the Office of Secretary. Amy is also familiar with the UIL Solo and Ensemble competition and Regional Orchestra requirements, and can prepare students for these important stages of their academic repertoire.

Mary Jane Jones received her elementary education degree with a music minor from S.H.S.U.  She is certified in music K-12, Early Childhood and E.S.L. Ms. Mary Jane is a former Klein I.S.D. Pre-Kindergarten teacher.  She co-wrote the Klein Pre-K curriculum in 2016 and helped write 5 grants that were funded by the Klein Foundation and A.A.U.W.

Mrs. Mary Jane was Teacher of the Year at Northampton Elementary and at Zwink elementary.  In 2014 she was chosen as a semi-finalist in the H.E.B. Excellence in Education Award. Her hobbies include ballroom dancing and acting. She was music director on 11 shows at Tomball Lonestar College, where she also performed in Nunsense and Nunsense 2 The Second Coming. She is currently accompanying for 2 choirs and babysitting her two grandsons. 

Mrs. Mary Jane enrolled her 3 now grown children in Young Child in this very studio.  Mary Jane is also a former teacher of Kindermusik in the 90’s.  Her oldest grandson is beginning his second year in Kindermusik. “I believe in the Kindermusik program.  It is brain based, developmentally appropriate and makes learning fun!”

Ms. Katie is from Kerrville, Texas and is currently completing her internship for a degree in music therapy at Sam Houston State University. Katie has been playing cello for 13 years and has been a member of Tivy High School Orchestra, Hill Country Youth Orchestra, Sam Houston Symphony Orchestra, and is currently a member of the Conroe Symphony Orchestra.

Ms. Katie has been teaching cello for four years and teaches all ages and skill levels. Aside from cello, Ms. Katie plays and teaches piano, guitar, and ukulele. After graduation, she hopes to work as a music therapist for children with special needs in a school district, continue teaching lessons, and sharing her passion for music.

Mrs. Mary Jane Jones

Mr. Dorr comes to The Woodlands Academy of Music with over 20 years experience teaching music at all levels. He currently is Choir Director for Huntsville High School. An accomplished singer, Mr. Dorr has sung with Opera in the Heights in five professional productions as well a numerous collegiate and community choruses in Georgia and Texas including the Atlanta Symphony Chorus under the direction of Robert Shaw and Yoel Levi, and the Lubbock Chorale under the direction of Dr. John Dickson.

As a pianist, Mr. Dorr studied applied piano with Mary Ann Knight and piano pedagogy with Madame Elizabeth Buday at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia. Mr. Dorr often serves as accompanist for students participating in vocal and instrumental solo contests. Mr. Dorr is an accomplished string bass player, having played with Brazos Chamber Orchestra, The Woodlands concert Band, Symphony North of Houston, Kingwood Pops, and Conroe Symphony.
